Multi-phased additions and renovations were completed by Pieper Houston on the active Klein Forest high school campus. This project included construction of a new 75,000 SF Career and Technology Education (CTE) building and the addition of 15,000 SF to the existing field house for dance and ROTC facilities. Our scope included the coordination and subsequent demolition of the previous CTE building, renovations to existing CTE areas, and site work.

Tellepsen YMCA

The new 200,000 sq. ft. facility replaced the 67-year old existing building a block away and features more work out space, more amenities, and increased parking.

This flagship facility boasts five floors of workout area, with the fifth being a suspended running track. The space also includes a teen center, lap pool, warm water therapy pool, exercise equipment rooms, group exercise rooms, racquetball/handball courts, gymnasium, chapel, café, and locker rooms. In addition, the site offers space for community meetings, board meetings, day camp, a computer lab, and food pantry, and provides more than 200 covered parking spaces.

Playing a key role in the development, Pieper-Houston Electric’s design/build engineering teams worked with Tellepsen to meet a tight construction schedule. The time between Pieper’s initial design to the issue for permitting construction drawings was just two short months. The team issued the superstructure first so the foundation and underground work could begin. For the interior design, Pieper embedded all conduit in the concrete to create an aesthetically pleasing finish that emphasized the perforated ceilings.

Creekside YMCA

On June 5, 2010, South Montgomery County opened its Outdoor Adventure Center in Creekside Park. This 21-acre recreation location includes a 14,000-square-foot lodge, tipi village, tree houses, outdoor theatre, elevated walkways, ropes course and more.

As the electrical contractor and design engineer for the Creekside YMCA, Pieper used its creativity to work around the existing creek and keep the beautiful foliage intact. Even when the creek overflowed, the Pieper team worked in standing water just to make sure the site had all the electrical outlets and outdoor lamps it needed. And that was just the day camp – Pieper also supplied the exposed timber lodge with power.

Conroe YMCA

Working with Primetex Corporation and Morning Star Studio, Pieper finished the 22,000 sq. ft., one-story, horseback riding pavilion for Conroe YMCA in May 2013. We installed new electrical service, lighting and receptacles for the horse barn, and we re-fed existing site lighting. The project was fairly straightforward, but did require carefully coordinating the proper heights of the light fixtures.
